The Biggest Geography Movie Collection Ever

My students need 80 movies about geography from National Geographic, Discovery, PBS, and other Independent Movie Makers and a case to hold them all.

This project is fully funded

My students are inner city 9th graders. They are just entering high school and are four short years away from graduation (fingers crossed). Starting in January I will be teaching them World Geography. This year we’re focusing on a Multi-Media experience. I want my students to be able to see/hear and to experience the world that is out there. I mean, as much as you can see and hear while sitting in a classroom. This experience means movies. Documentaries made in the last couple years that provide vivid pictures, eye opening animations, and up to date information. When asked about anything, I want to be able to say, “Global Warming? This is what it looks like. The savannas of Africa? Here you go.” I started my search, naturally, with National Geographic, and got lost in the many, many options they provide. I filled in the gaps with The Discovery Channel, PBS, the BBC, and several independent film makers. All of these documentaries will be able to explain, visualize, and demonstrate geographic principles better than the cold and complicated language of a text book. With your help, my students will have a greater understanding of the world around them and with that experience a better chance to succeed in high school, graduate, and then go on to greater success in college.
