My Students

My 4th graders attend a collaborative, diverse, and creative public school in Brooklyn, NY. We teach our students to be intellectually curious learners, socially responsible citizens, and dynamic problem solvers.

This is my first year teaching 4th grade, and I want to set my students up for success, both academic and social/emotional, through the use of picture books!

In order for my students to be as successful, motivated, and engaged as possible, I want to create a rich picture book library in which they can explore various topics, such as diversity, self-confidence, community, and the arts.

My Project

I would like to provide my students with a wide assortment of picture books.

They can use these books to learn about the world and explore topics such as individuality, diversity, and the arts.

I would also, after they read and explore these books, like for them to create their own picture books modeled after their new mentor texts.

Picture books can provide students with engaging, visual, and creative ways of learning about the world we live in. Through the use of these books, my students will become more accepting, open, thoughtful, and critical thinkers, as well as citizens of the world.
