Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our District has recently begun an Ethnic Studies English class. It includes books written in authentic voices about the experiences of people belonging to many different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. While the novels the District selected are wonderful, this particular book is interesting to students in a different way.

Students need to be engaged to read in new ways.

The Best We Could Do is a graphic novel memoir about a family's escape from South Viet Nam in the 1970s and how they built new lives for themselves. It helps bridge the gap for reluctant readers by providing visuals to enhance the story.

These books would be made available to all Ethnic Studies classes, which includes about 350 students per year. Please help us give them a novel that will inspire learning in a whole new way.
