My students are energetic, inquisitive, and love their school! They thrive in a learning environment that encourages them to take risks, try new things, and work through mistakes and failures. Many come from diverse backgrounds and homes that often do not afford the opportunity to experience the world outside of their own neighborhood. School offers them a gateway to the world beyond the neighborhood and the walls of the classroom.
A library is a place where they can experience books, technology, and challenges that broaden their perspectives and teach them critical thinking and problem-solving.
For this reason, it is important for the library to have a diverse collection of books and maker space materials readily available to students from pre-k through fifth grade.
Activities that allow them to synthesize what they read and learn to help them to discover and create on their own. These small steps in learning and problem solving energize them and give them the motivation and interest they need to work through new and difficult skills and concepts. With a lot of love and a little support, these students can do anything!
My Project
"I love to read!" That's what we want to hear as teachers. To help foster that love of reading, we fill our school with books-- in the library and classrooms, but all of these books belong to the teacher or to the school.
What we'd love to have is a way for students to earn and pick out books to keep as their own.
Book vending machines don't use money; books are free to students who earn tokens for perseverance, helping a friend, or any other good behavior that deserves a reward. This can help build excitement for reading and give students ownership over what they read.
With a book vending machine, we can help foster a love of reading, reward good behaviors, and provide students with books of their own. We can't wait to implement this exciting reward program for our students!
