I teach fourth grade in an area where too often a dream is deferred. It is my goal as an inner-city teacher to work hard and diligently to ensure that the needs of my students aren't postponed or delayed.

My students are creative, eager to learn, and extremely intelligent. Each year I have my students complete a series of projects and activities that enhance the skills that are taught in our daily lessons. I usually integrate technology into our lessons in some way through a variety of devices. Unfortunately, the digital camera that I purchased a few years back to use in the classroom no longer works. As the school year progresses, the inability to photograph and record classroom lessons and activities has hindered the quality of our finished products. There are many projects that we use the camera for. In the month of November my class will be publishing a professional class book that relies on photographs taken in and around the classroom. In addition, we are actively participating in an on-line project that relies on us taking digital pictures of us completing a math experiment so that they can be downloaded on a particular website and shared with other fourth grade students around the world. Aside from capturing classroom images during a lesson or activity, the classroom camera is used to archive monumental moments we experience as a group through out the school year.

We need a new classroom digital camera. By having this camera in the classroom, students will be given the opportunity to complete and enhance a variety of activities such as publishing our class book, developing short commercials and skits to share in class and on the web, and sharing a variety of images of our classroom experiments and projects on-line and around the school.
