Help me give my students a classroom library that is full of diverse and interesting books! I believe in giving my students a variety of texts to choose from, so that they may love reading again.

My Project

My students are incredible. They are clever and witty and kind. But when they get to me in the 10th grade, so many of them have fallen out of love with reading for fun. They are forced to read things that are either beyond their ability or just simply uninteresting to them. They begin to equate reading for school with reading for fun, and then they say "I don't like to read." It is heartbreaking, but also, it is doing them a huge disservice as they get older. They begin to struggle even more with the stamina it takes to take higher level classes or reach their academic goals, because reading is too difficult for them.

I believe that by showing my students how to love reading again, I can provide them with not only success in their education, but a more joyful and peaceful existence.

More than anything else, I want to show them how to love reading. I want to show them the joy and relaxation that come from reading, the inspiration that can come from others' stories, and the eye-opening experience of discovering new perspectives.

My project will help fuel the fire within them.
