Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various backgrounds. I know, because I grew up in the exact same neighborhood as they do and attended the exact same middle school that I teach at. No matter the income their household brings in, each and every single one of my students give me 110%.

Every student who comes into the gymnasium understands that they have the ability to do whatever they want in life.

I am just here to help guide them, but they will lead their own path as life-long learners.

By providing hands-on activities and incorporating technology into the classroom, not only will student engagement grow, student comprehension will increase. Allowing the students to see that hard work and perseverance will end with positive results. This will leave my students with a better and deeper understanding of their own health that will allow them to live longer and healthier lives.

My Project

The Heart Zone heart rate monitors I have requested are wristbands that can be linked to individual students. Using a laptop, or iPad, I can monitor and track students data on the intensity of their workouts in physical education class. We can compare beginning of the year results to end of the year results to show my students the amount of growth they have made throughout the year. We can create friendly competitions amongst one another by trying to burn the most calories in a certain amount of time, or go simple and create a step goal challenge against each other.

One thing is certain, technology grabs the attention of our 21st century learners because of the hands-on and visual aspects.

Having these devices and syncing them to the program that it comes with allows the students to visually see their data and progress instantly.

To increase the engagement of a 21st century learner one must incorporate technology into their day-to-day lessons. Engagement leads to understanding, and understanding leads to student achievement. As an educator and a parent, student achievement is my number one goal. Help create brighter and healthier students to excel our future.
