My students need drums! Various tones make class better and we are slowly building up different drums. This drum will add a great new tone to our class!
My students love to move and make music. There is a noticeable change in class when they get up to actively make music, and the more instruments we have to play, the more frequent and diverse our music making activities can be!
My kids are an excitable bunch, and I love it when I can channel that excitement directly into their learning.
"Making noise" is a fantastic way to unleash their creative selves, and I'm constantly amazed by their musicality. Since rhythm and beat is so foundational to any musical learning, we do tons of rhythm activities, and I want to make sure that our activities never get boring or commonplace. We are a very small school in a very rural community and my kids are involved in many things, and this awesome early exposure to music has a long tradition of making our community very musical.
My Project
Rhythm and hands-on music making are essential to developing not only musical skills, but also a love for music and musical habits. In class we try and do as much active music making as possible, but we have limited resources. This drum will add to our palette of sounds and make our rhythm activities more varied and interesting.
Along with being able to play different instruments, I believe it is important that they get varied exposure to different instruments and different cultures.
Last year I built several cajons for my classroom, and now I'm interested in adding a bodhran into the mix. It is not only a unique sounding drum, but it has a very specific cultural connection and a unique playing style. Exposing them to this drum, and by extension these new styles and cultures, making them better people.
