Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are naturally musical.They amaze me every day with their kindness and joy of learning, even though many come from various and sometimes challenging backgrounds. Due to financial limitations, school music is the only garanteed music outlet many of our students have access to. They are constantly creating songs on the playground and come skipping down the hall to choir. Music is their happy place. Our school budget for music is zero dollars. These kids deserve so much more.

My Project

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will learn about melody, harmony, and teamwork through the use of these boomwhackers. All students learn to play bucket drums and drum set during their time at JES. These sticks will also be used by our pep band drumline to support our basketball team, the pride of our school. Finally, our guitar ensemble is working hard at rehearsals, but we do not have enough strings to go around. Fixing these instruments will give students an opportunity to learn an instrument they could not otherwise afford to play. All instruments are school owned.
