Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are naturally curious about the world around them, and science class gives them the chance to explore how nature works. An engaging lab I'd like to do is called Battle of the Beaks, where students simulate different bird beak types using tools like chopsticks, tweezers, and toothpicks to understand how adaptations affect survival. Through hands-on challenges, they learn how physical traits help animals succeed in specific environments — a key part of our evolution and natural selection unit.
To make this experience meaningful for every student, we need classroom sets of simple tools such as rubber bands, chopsticks, toothpicks, and clothespins — everyday items that turn into powerful learning tools in this lab.
With your support, we can give students a fun, memorable way to grasp the concept of adaptation through real-world application and active learning. These materials will not only enhance their understanding of evolution, but also make science feel exciting, accessible, and relevant.
