My Project

School budgets offer very little money to classroom teachers for the needs of students in a classroom. Since most students don't come to school with the needed school materials for their classes, it's important to have a plethora of basic supplies available to kids who need them. As a reading.teacher, it's important to me that basic supplies be readily accessible in an area of the room that's inviting and organized for all students' needs.

As a way to stay organized and productive while in my reading classroom, my students will have the opportunity to go to the student "supply" center to grab different writing utensils, folders, and even a quick snack without shame or embarrassment.

There is a tiered bookshelf in my classroom that will be designated as our "Student Center." My reading students will be studying fiction and nonfiction genres in our novel study and book club units. They will need pencils, red pens, highlighters, and erasers throughout our Cornell note and vocabulary assignments Those tools will be accessible on the tiered bookshelf in the organizer caddies. Additionally, the students will be required to write summative reports on the authors we study, that go along with our book report projects, so the folders will be available to students who need them on the tiered bookshelf. Because organization is crucial for junior high students, the kids will be able to keep their supplies in Ziplock bags kept in the classroom. Our student center will be inviting and comfortable with the aid of a cozy house plant and a wax melter for soft lighting and scents. The kids can even grab a snack. This project is designed to help those students who will need school supplies throughout the year in a comfortable and inviting space without embarrassment or guilt.
