Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a bilingual school on the Western Slope of Colorado. We are lucky because our school district values the idea of our students becoming bilingual, bi-literate and multicultural by the 5th grade.
I love my job because each day I get to work with the world's brightest children...all of whom are second language learners.
Whether they are learning English or Spanish, they develop empathy and respect for one another along our journey. I also work at a Title I school which means that most of our students' families struggle with making "ends" meet. However, what each child lacks financially, they certainly make up with heart. You should see them learn!
My Project
It is only October, and already, we are running low on some of our basic classroom supplies. So, in this project, I am asking for black dry-erase markers (we use these everyday!), glue sticks, basic tissues for the common cold, yellow highlighters to highlight important words and packing tape to secure poems and labels in journals.
This year, we are using these supplies everyday (sometimes 2 to 3 times a day) to learn subjects like math and reading.
I'm not sure that our current supply will last us through December! Supporting this project will ensure that all of my little learners will have the supplies they need to be successful First Graders at our school.
