Students cannot learn without basic school and homework supplies. As a veteran educator, it is important that I provide the necessary items needed for my students’ academic success. My students are happy and free loving students whose poverty level often hold them back from succeeding. The school staff attempts to provide all items needed to ensure students’ academic and emotional needs are met. When provided with free basic school and a homework supplies our students excel and show great interest in their learning.
The United States Census Bureau reported in 2016 that 12, 517 children live in poverty homes where school items are not considered the priority over food and shelter.
To address our parents poverty issues, students are given basic items purchased from a small school budget and teachers personal income. We make an effort to safeguard students’ academia through fundraising for extra monies to buy items needed for our students. The Tiger Scholar students are intelligent learners who are showing stride in their overall end of the year state standard test scores. With basic supplies for learning and supportive teachers our at-risk students are more than prepared for the world.
The basic school supplies for homework projects (tag board, drawing paper, and canvases) will allow my at-risk students to explore their learning in their home setting through creating a unit that details their learning. •Homework reinforces skills, concepts and information learned in class. Through having these supplies to use for homework my students will connect their school learning to their real-world studies. While using their homework supplies students will prepare for the upcoming class topics through advance study and preparation. Students will be allowed to extend their learning by applying skills to new situations. Students will integrate their learning by applying many different skills to a single task, such as written reports and hands-on projects.
If funded with this grant my students will learn to use their new resources and materials to explore subjects more fully than classroom time permits.
Students will learn to work independently towards developing self-discipline for understanding of their own learning. The new supplies will encourages students to take initiative and responsibility for completing a task. New homework supplies will allow parents to work one-on-one with their child to help build parent/child relationship. Lastly, new supplies will create a spark in student’s enthusiasm and learning on their own.
