My Students

My students participate in a program our district calls the Comprehensive Intervention Program or CIP for short. This is fancy talk for a self-contained classroom with one-on-one support. The goal of this program is to give them the education they need with some extra support in order to prepare them for the things they will face in life!

My students all have different levels of ability, each bringing a unique personality to the classroom.

That being said, they have a huge range of disabilities, I have students with Speech and Language delays, autism, as well as students with mild to severe cognitive delays. They are all wonderful and unique individuals, individuals that learn in multiple different ways so we need multiple different kinds of materials.

My Project

Children, by their very nature, are better at some subjects than others. For example, some children are very creative and have a natural talent for art, while other students are more inclined to do well in subjects like math and science. Including art in our classroom provides the opportunity for students who are more creatively inclined to develop a further understanding of basic subjects. For example, I can connect art activities to a lesson, such as math, by having students create shapes and colors with the water color paper and parts of faces or plants with googley eyes and pompom petals. With the new art supplies we will be able to do just that!

Through art and sensory, children can develop academic skills, communication skills, social learning skills and build an understanding of others.

It is very important that we allow our students the opportunity to add art into their days to help develop these skills.
