Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a former student of the school that I teach at, I can say that all students in my classroom are hardworking, smart, caring, and curious future citizens of the world. No economic obstacle, language barrier, or learning disability impedes my students from coming to school ready to learn every day and eager to take on any math problem, and reading comprehension test, or any writing benchmark. Their curiosity to explore the science or history standards in our S.E.A.L. units enables for their multiple intelligences to develop and allows for different learning modalities to be explored. Every day is a learning experience in class for my wonderful kiddos! Mistakes are always welcomed because it is through the acknowledgment that they exist that we are able to overcome everyday obstacles and achieve our goals. Students in my class don't try their best, they DO their very BEST!
My Project
Basic classroom supplies are essential for every day learning to take place in my classroom. Most students don't have the means to purchase good dry erase markers whenever they dry out and as a teacher of 26 it gets very challenging trying to make the purchases myself. Students in my class use whiteboards and dry erase markers every day for their daily morning routines or checking for understanding activities. Students also need new whiteboards, since the ones we have are old and scratched, making it hard for students to use and for me to check. Students in my classroom use a lot of white and colored paper to create graphic organizers for reading and writing and at times for important class projects or assignments in art, math, science or history. Students also need new folders to keep their published work and important resources protected and organized. My kids spend a lot of time on the carpet. It would be great for them to have their own clipboards to take notes while they watch or read informational pieces. White index cards are also used every day to check for understanding in math or are used by students to create sight word reading flashcards. Sticky notes are also another tool that students use to give feedback to their peers when editing writing pieces in our writing block. Each student got their own pack at the beginning of the year and we are definitely running low on these as well. Other basic classroom supplies like pencils and writing paper are always a need for students in my class are awesome writers, illustrators, and artists. Big chart paper is also needed when students work in groups to complete math word problems, writing pieces, group classroom assignments, and projects that are used as presentation resources!
