This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Badminton is supporting AZ Standards 1 (S1, M12;M13;M14) for games and sports.

Unfortunately, we do not have badminton nets, just a few badminton racquets we utilize during play.

The interest is great and my students strongly enjoy playing with one another. My students adore playing this type of sport and create stronger bonds when teaming up or being paired together. The energy I witness when my students get competitive and have matches together gets everyone excited to play again. I promised my students to write to Donors Choose and hope someone will recognize our needs. We are a Title I school that cannot afford equipment once torn apart, accidentally broken, or when constant use causes the equipment to become unusable. The lack of equipment and proper nets causes my students to be discouraged on whether, as a whole class, they will all be able to play this sport together again.

Badminton is a sport that will give my students the chance to be part of a sporting team in any high-school in Arizona. Developing badminton skills and practicing serving , striking, backhand and forehand techniques in my class will give my students greater opportunities to go above and beyond as a freshmen in high-school. This includes the chance to be proactive during the day, while playing a sport they love. Badminton's connection to tennis or pickleball, brings a great base if my students would like to branch off to similar type of sports. Badminton encourages peer play, sportsmanship, and encourage them to try all types of sports. My students are special, due to their charisma and willingness to participate in my classroom, despite the lack of funding our school offers. I feel proud, as a teacher when they I hear excitement in their voices to play this sport once more.
