My Students

On a daily basis, I tell my kids that they are the best. I encourage them to always want to learn more. However, because of the lack of resources in my school, it sometimes becomes a challenge when my students cannot fully grasp information because they do not have to tools to help them learn.

Do you know how it feels to learn differently from others?

Sure you do! However, it is more of a challenge for students with autism. That is why they need interactive and hands-on materials to boost their potential. My students are 13 and 14 year-old boys with autism. They have many skills and they love learning new things. They attend a school for students with disabilities in a low income neighborhood. Some of the parents have limited economic resources. The school also has limited economic resources. I am passionate about my students and I know what they need. They need interactive and hands-on materials that will keep them engaged. They also need personal headphones to listen to educational stories based on our school curriculum. Students with autism need to learn visually as well as orally. My students need to hear educational stories as well as view the characters on a computer. We really need head phones and a CD player to increase comprehension.

My Project

My students work very hard. I love that they are willing to learn, and are able to acquire new skills very quickly. I want to continue pushing them to the top, helping them to reach their fullest potential. I have requested headphones, math manipulatives, writing journals and a CD player to help my students reach their fullest potential. My students use several websites however, it is challenging when a student wants to use educational websites while other students are working in small groups. Why? It is because sometimes students have to wait to use the computer so as not to disturb other students with the noise. This is not fair to my students. Every year has its own challenges, and I do not want my students to become bored. I love my students and I love to see them progress. My students face many challenges because of their disability, therefore it is very important that they have what they need in the classroom.

This project is very important to me because I feel that my students are not getting what they need from me when they lack school resources that I know will boost their learning potential.

It's like having a computer with no keyboard. I love my students and I want them to learn all that they can learn. I have the knowledge that I need to impart to them, but they need interactive materials to reinforce that knowledge.
