Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I am happy to teach the MOST enthusiastic group of students I have ever encountered in my career. French is a new offering in the school and my 6-8th graders are excited to learn something totally foreign to them. I have never had students so eager to ask "how do you say..." about almost every word ever. The 6-7th graders are learning a lot about Francophone culture and traditions while my 8th graders are diving head first into the French language.
My Project
These supplies will help my students experience authentic French café life through hot beverages and supplies to make projects.
The French café experience is unique - your donation will help my students live "la vie au café" by enjoying a warm beverage, leisurely talking with others, and working on projects.
In French Club, we will start each session with a beverage (hot chocolate, coffee, tea, cider) made on our brand new Keurig and participate in a French speaking activity. Then, we will read texts and create projects together that allow us to explore various aspects of Francophone culture. Using the paint, brushes, and canvases, we'll paint our own replica Impressionist paintings. Using the glue guns, modge podge, pompoms, and pipe cleaners we'll construct our own replicas of French monuments and craft holiday ornaments to give as gifts to family and friends. Additionally, we'll use some of the same supplies plus the poster board to create our own French menus for our "Restaurant Le Cercle Français." We'll partner with the foods teacher to make delicious French recipes for family and friends.
My students love to put their creative skills to work. These supplies will help stock my classroom for years to come with materials that will give my students even more authentic French-language experiences right here in my classroom.
