My Project

My Pre-K students are 4 and 5 year olds that love to move, explore, learn and play music. My students come from many different places around the world and the two things they all have in common is their love for music and their interest in exploring their environment.

Music and movement are important for children's development, fostering cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills as well as enhancing language, creativity and academic performance.

Music and movement provide a safe and healthy outlet for children to express their emotions, both positive and negative. Playing music boosts children's confidence and self-esteem. Participating in music activities, like singing in a group or playing an instrument, foster's teamwork, communication and social interaction. Movement also provides a creative outlet to work on their physical development. Exposure to music and dance from different cultures broadens a child's understanding and appreciation of diversity.

With the instruments and movement materials I am requesting, I will create a music and movement center that allows all of the different nationalities in my classroom to be represented. The children will have access to the instruments and movement materials, like ribbons and bean bags, during centers where they can explore, learn and have fun with peers. The different materials like the Learning Resources Smart Toss Colors, Shapes & Numbers Game will be used to help children learn about rhythm and patterns, improve memory skills, develop vocabulary, phonics and listening skills while staying engaged and having fun!
