This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A lemonade stand is a great example of teaching students entrepreneurship. Similarly, The Art Pop-Up Club is aimed at creating artists and entrepreneurs, and maybe even future small business owners!
The club's mission: "We make stuff and sell them".
Students will be learning different skills: watercoloring, crocheting cute things, creating perler bead keychains, felting, jewelry making, ceramics, and more! Whether students participate in the club for fun or for selling their creations, students will learn two very important life skills of self-confidence and entrepreneurship. Of course, we will also have a lot of fun relaxing, talking with friends, listening to music, and maybe laughing as we poke ourselves with felting needles.
My school has a rich and vibrant culture, consisting of 97% of students who are of color and 40% who are English learners. The teaching and administrative staff is just as diverse, wonderful, and supportive. My students, in general, are not well-exposed to extracurricular activities such as an athletic program or having diverse options of clubs. Thus, I believe it is important for them to have a club where they can feel a sense of belonging. Students teaching students how to crochet...what could be more fun than that?!
