Our art students come from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create!
In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science, and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.
Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving. We are a busy classroom!
My Project
Our art students are lucky enough to have art on a regular basis. This means, we make a lot of art! Painting, drawing (pencil, colored pencil, pastels, oil pastels), and printmaking projects are finished every week in the RMS art room. We are always trying to branch out and incorporate different types of art media. This is why I have chosen Pilot calligraphy pens and ink. We currently use the old pen nibs and India ink. This is very messy, frustrating, and time consuming. Kids struggle with the process, dripping ink, and staining.
Donations to my project will allow my kids to create Illuminated Calligraphy Manuscripts with the new refillable calligraphy parallel pens.
Students will learn about the history of calligraphy, Gothic style lettering, and Illuminated Letters before creating their masterpieces with these new pens and ink!
