My Students

Biotechnology is not your traditional high school science class. In this lab-centered course, students spend about eighty percent of their time in class preparing for labs, completing labs, or concluding their labs. Therefore, the Biotechnology students have a much greater need and use for laboratory equipment.

We reach a broad ethnic, socio-economic, and skill-level demographic in this course.

The students in Biotechnology are sophomores through seniors. Because this class is much more lab-centered, students are able to explore and observe many of the more complex concepts in biology and chemistry, rather than just read and hear about these concepts. This approach is much more effective for kinesthetic learners, as well as students with learning difficulties.

My Project

Students will use the neon pens, board spray and erasers on their chemical tables as "white boards" to demonstrate their understanding of complex topics, equations, and to design labs. The paint pens are a permanent way to label glassware used in the lab.

Using new tools to address age old problems, students will be engaged in the activities because it will allow them to work on these problems in a new way.

Students often make the most meaning from the curriculum by working collaboratively, and these new tools will allow the students to work together in a quick, easy, way that will limit discretion by passing out and collecting whiteboards.
