The Art Of Play

My students need poster board, tablecloths, ping pong balls, fish bowls, plastic fish, rings, carnival tickets, football toss, darts and supplies to put on a carnival.

My Students

An active mind is a healthy mind. This is exactly what our classroom is made of. Eager students who love to collaborate and create. When we pull out the hands-on activities, eyes open wide and smiles appear from ear to ear. Our hopes are that if we create it, our peers will come.

Our school is a Title One district that is located in a beautiful country setting surrounded by farms and apple orchards.

Our numbers are small which give us that family feeling. The community is always ready to step in and lend a hand where ever help is needed. Our students are eager to learn, but they also like to have fun while learning. We can dance, sing, sew, paint and now we are ready to create and entertain. The students work hard each day to please and yet there seems to be less time for real art and creativity. Students work on reading, writing, spelling and math daily. When all our work is done it is time to play. We love to create for ourselves, but we would also love the opportunity to put on a show for others. Anything we can do to show off our talents for others gets us excited.

My Project

Our students will use the poster board to create a carnival game posters to advertise their carnival booth. They will be put into pairs or groups where they will need to collaborate with their partners to create their poster, discuss how they will set up their booth and run their game. Each pair or group will pick a carnival game, such as: the football toss, can toss, ring the bottle, darts for balloon pop, milk bottle knock down, turtle toss, arcade, fish bowl, or chicken fling. Once they get their game and poster board they will start to get to work to create their booth, rules and directions of how they will run and advertise their game to encourage their peers to play. Tickets will be used for players to turn in for prizes once they have played the games. Students will learn the importance of working as a team to create and advertise their own little business.

Donations to this project will brighten our room with excitement beyond words.

This students will be taking ownership of their own little business. Learning how to work together and trust one another listening to all suggestions and ideas. Their is no "I" in team. Students will be able to take what they have learned in the classroom and show that they can collaborate, create and bring entertainment to their peers. This will be one activity and learning experience the students will remember.
