"Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." -Elliott Erwitt
Teaching kids to discover the complex and amazing world that we live in is my passion. The Art of Photography is under served in our schools.
I have the privilege to work with 5th and 6th grade students.
Our school is a wonderful place for kids to learn. We have every ethnic and socio-economic class present in our school. We are grateful to learn in a community that values education and supports learning.
My Project
All students who have an interest in photography will have the opportunity to learn about the basics of digital photography. In addition they will attend field trips to practice their skills. Students will go 'on-assignment' around our school and in our community to capture pictures.
We will host a community gallery show to showcase the digital art that is captured throughout the year.
Last year, I was able to launch our school's first digital photography club.
It was a great success for those students who attended. However, I was saddened to learn that many students who did not have cameras did not return for the next Photography class. It is my hope to provide a camera for the students to practice their skills we learn about in class. All students should be able to sharpen their skills as Digital artists, not just the ones who can afford a camera.
