The students in my 8th grade history class come from a variety of backgrounds and income levels. They range from honors students to struggling students with IEPs. Although they range in abilities, they all enjoy hands-on learning. They get excited to collaborate and learn in new and engaging ways.
My students require different types of learning strategies and face different educational challenges.
I have many students that struggle with reading and writing and need additional attention. I find that projects work best for them and that they like to work together to figure things out.
My advanced students like to be challenged and are eager to learn and engage in different activities. They enjoy creating projects about historical events and working together to understand history. I constantly strive to find activities that will challenge all of my students and allow them to learn in a fun, creative environment.
My Project
History comes alive when students are allowed to be creative in the classroom! My students will use the colored printer paper and card stock to create various projects throughout the year. Students will create branches of government superheroes, founding fathers comparisons, reform movement puzzles, Civil War quilts, along with many other hands-on projects that promote creativity and critical thinking in the classroom.
In addition to projects, students will also use the colored paper for vocab, study guides and notes.
Colored paper helps students keep track of each chapter and encourages them to keep track of each quarter's material throughout the school year.
