Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an 80% free and reduced lunch school with a very diverse population, Black, Latino, Caucasian and Native American being the primary cultures represented. We are becoming 21st century learners and to do that we need to make sure we have some of the basic tools to create new learning. Thinking school wide we work specifically to help them build new experiences that will stick with them and provide a springboard for their new learning.
Our students would love to create visual arts projects that are creative, expressive and innovative.
We want to expand beyond academic learning with paper and pencil, helping them develop skills that will make their lives as students easier and more dynamic. With tools such as green screens, lighting and tripods it will enhance our ability to create work that overlaps in visual arts, presentation making and creativity. It will provide us with opportunities to interact with learning and build community through our student government that can be easily shared with others. Using the visual arts will absolutely help in creating a lasting impact for both the students using the technology as well as our school community.
My Project
The students in our community school represent a very diverse group which is very unique to our district. Our goal is for our students to see themselves, and others in visual arts projects AND for others to see our school and what makes us so unique and but also shows the diversity we have here in our city. Often times we find that by upper elementary grade level, students lose some of their inspiration when they don't see themselves represented.
Students will envision creative and inspired possibilities through visual arts projects.
Another part of our goal is to build a bridge for our students moving from elementary, to junior high and high school. Allowing students to build their skills so that they are prepared with the innovative technologies and visual arts when they enter giving them a leg up in the community!
