Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students participate in the AVID program and focus on collaboration in academics. We emphasize career and technical programs as well as academic rigor and literacy.
We focus on designing classroom activities that allow students to take ownership of the content.
Our teachers create opportunities for students to investigate, talk, explore, and come to their own understanding. Our school is committed to helping students who have the desire to go to college by completing a rigorous curriculum, however, they may also be the first student in their family to attend college. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success and we are committed to helping students achieve their dream.
My Project
Currently we struggle to round up enough highlighters in various colors to complete some of our assignments. With your help, this would change and my students would have access to a variety of highlighter colors as well as colored pencils. This would help significantly when students are asked to highlight verbs green and nouns yellow. Or underline the thesis blue and the evidence red.
Helping the students visualize the different pieces and parts of the reading will help them grow as analytical readers.
This way they can balance their own written thoughts and ideas with their understanding of the author's intent and purpose.
