My Students
"A'ohe pau ka 'ike i ka halau ho'okani"- Hawaiian saying: All knowledge is not taught in the same school. My diverse students deserve diverse learning experiences to fully grasp today's challenging educational requirements.
Our school prides itself on its commitment to the arts and sciences, areas that are neglected in many public schools.
We also pride ourselves on taking an innovative approach to teaching and learning in a diverse and quickly changing world. Our students come from diverse backgrounds in terms of ethnicity and socioeconomic status; 80% of our student population receives free or reduced cost lunch. Despite the wide variety of students, they have one thing in common: they all benefit from using the performing arts to demonstrate their learning.
My Project
Students need hands-on tools for authentic scientific experiences. Students will observe and document the butterflies' life cycle as they develop in the butterfly habitat. Hands-on manipulatives and visual aids will further cement their learning. Students will translate their learning experience into a musical performing arts piece, so they will need quality instruments. Can you envision a caterpillar inching forward as the accordion stretches and squeezes?
Each student is unique and brings with them their own strengths and challenges.
This project gives every child a chance to shine, be it through science activities, journaling, drawing, music making, or dancing. These donations are perfect for our butterfly project and can be used again and again for future scientific and musical experiences.
