The Amazing World of Reading, Writing, and Comprehension Through Language
My students need headphones with a microphone to use speech software for speech to text. They also need headphones to listen to books or websites due to their reading, writing, and comprehension disabilities.
The students I work with are amazingly caring, supportive of one another, and constantly improving their problem-solving skills. Each one is unique and has varying needs due to the different way they process information and grade level curriculum. They are committed to their education and never cease to amaze me when they persevere through their struggles. Watching them improve and seeing the strides they make throughout the year is what makes this job so rewarding. When they have met their goals on their Individualized Education Plan and we are able to set new ones their self-esteem rises.
We are all part of their educational success, from the students themselves, their guardians, and the community.
When they have the tools they need in the classroom there is no stopping them and I have seen first hand what they are capable of when the roadblocks are removed.
My Project
My students can truly have a more individualized education with the ability to hear books at their pace and grade level. They will also feel a sense of accomplishment with writing pieces when they are able to put to paper what they can usually only verbalize. Many of my students benefit from speech to text software but are unable to use it because the microphones on the computers don't pick up their voices.
It is a struggle to find working headphones because our school is only able to provide them during testing situations or for specific subjects such as dual language.
Valuable class time is missed when students are hunting for a working pair of headphones or need to go to other classrooms to borrow theirs.
