Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

They are fearless students with disabilities that will benefit greatly from a new sand and water table, sports and game materials to support and develop their fine and gross motor skills.

Each student in my classroom loves outdoor activities.

With support, new materials will motivate and help them succeed in developing their skills. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, and learning outdoor centers options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

My students with disabilities will spend outdoors time using new safe materials for their centers that will support social emotional skills when playing with teachers and peers. (Building big LEGOS and magnetic materials, catching balls, playing with water and sand).

Our students are from a lower socio-economic area. I would like to have materials that support opportunities to appreciate nature.

My Project

The materials in our project are for outdoor learning centers. We have old equipment and manipulatives that are falling apart and missing pieces, for example, cracked tables, water and sand toys, etc. In our ECSE program, we are outside for one hour every day.

Playing and learning outdoors are important to help children learn and appreciate the environment by respecting nature and develop positive social emotional human relationships.

Being in natural settings may also reduce the severity of symptoms in children with ADHD (Faber Taylor & Kuo, 2011)

Consistent exposure to nature reduces stress and anxiety, helps elevate mood, and helps with emotion.
