Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In this meaningful project, my students will create a portrait project using charcoal and graphite of portraits of individuals who have made a lasting, positive impact on the world. Called the Advocacy Portrait Project, this assignment challenges students to research and reflect on a figure they feel personally connected to (student-centered), whether it’s a musician, athlete, artist, political leader, or social justice advocate. However, they must find evidence of their support for a cause.
The project's first step is embarking on a research paper supported by evidence about how their chosen figure helped improve the world.
Step two entails students bringing that person to life through a detailed portrait drawn using graphite pencils (2B, 6B, 8B), graphite sticks, and charcoal.
To make this project possible, we seek your support for drawing materials essential to the creative process. These tools allow students to explore shading, texture, light, and form while expressing deep personal and emotional connections through portraiture.
With your support, students will grow as artists and informed, inspired individuals who see the power of human impact and their voices in the world around them.
