The Absorbent Mind...Moving into the 21st Century!
My students need a rug, cushions to sit on comfortably and an iPad, along with a printer to help them with research, group projects and educational online activities.
"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand." This old Chinese proverb aptly describes the type of teaching and learning environment in my classroom. My students are eager to learn and need the tools to involve them in the learning process.
My school is in an impoverished community from an extremely poor part of the city.
Most of the students are from underprivileged families. The students in my class are the Gifted and Talented students in the school, ranging from 1st grade to 5th grade. Their minds are brilliant and they need to explore frequently beyond the four walls of the classroom. Their minds are absorbent, like sponges and they constantly need to be challenged beyond the curriculum.
My Project
My students are unable to complete research assignments at home, due to not having access to technology. Having these resources, such as the iPad and the printer will allow them to express their creativity beyond what I can provide for them. In order to meet their needs, I would like them to participate more using technology and creating their own Power Point projects and Excel worksheets. We currently have only a few computers in the class and no printer. This limits the amount of time, the students can use the computer. Having an additional source to the classroom would make a huge difference and open up a whole new world for them. My students will be able to design projects and print them to display. Also, this would better prepare them for the challenges of middle and high school. Also, my students love to sit on the floor and work in a relaxed manner. This is where their creative minds work best. I would love to see them sitting more comfortably on cushions on the rug
Your donations will make a huge impact on a group of students who will truly appreciate your help.
These children are the reason that I teach, and I am reaching out to you on their behalf to give whatever you can to help support these bright, eager minds.
