My Students

Our Students are from a rural community here in Southern Oregon. We live in the beautiful Rogue Valley surrounded by the Table Rocks and the Rouge River. Our students are motivated to learn and they are ambitious.

My students are middle school students between the sixth and eighth grade They are full of life, fun, optimistic about their future and I want to keep lifting them up by providing them every experience possible to help them be successful.

We may live in a small town, but my students have big aspirations. Please help me provide the necessary experience for our students to be successful. Your investment in our students will certainly be rewarding for all of us.

My Project

I teach Special Education to middle school students who read below grade level. My goal is to expose them to novels that they would otherwise not read. My goal is to have them read over a million words per year.

To accomplish my goal of a million words read, we start with a five book series by Patrick Carman, Skeleton Creek.

Mr. Carmans stories are highly engaging, and they include a videos that the class watches together to help solve a mystery. My students, and I, are often on the edge of our seats. We also read short stories, for example "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell and "The Swimmer" by John Cheever. Part of my job is to introduce and engage my students in a passion for reading. We are currently reading "Holes" by Louis Sachar.

My plan for the spring is to read "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie as well as "And then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. I need a set of books that remain in my classroom so that students can read along, aloud, and engage in the material. I plan on using these books and stories to engage students for many years to come.
