Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second and third-grade students are full of life, energetic, and opinionated. They motivate me to strive further into finding creative and innovative ways to capture and sustain their attention. It can be challenging, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
My students all have learning abilities and disabilities that include autism, emotionally disturbed, ADHD, deaf and hard of hearing, intellectually disabled and specific learning disability.
Our families are amazing, yet are predominantly from a low Socio-economic status. We are in Salinas, "the home of the Salad Bowl", where many parents work on the fields, or are connected to it. 1 out of 4 children at our school are considered homeless.
My Project
The support that these seat cushions, foot-rests, and reading trackers will give to my students, so they are able to be a mindful learner in the classroom, will undoubtedly make a huge difference in their educational lives. As a special education teacher in a low SES school district, I am always looking to find ways that can help my students, while not costing too much out of my pocket.
With varying abilities and needs in my classroom, these items can benefit everyone by providing sensory satisfaction, balance, core strength, and awareness.
