This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Everyone deserves a cozy place to read a great book and a cozy place to compose one too!
I teach an active and imaginative group of first graders in a high poverty school located in Southeast Virginia.
Over 80% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunch. Many of my students live in violent neighborhoods. I want to help my students feel safe and secure at school by creating inviting and relaxing spaces for reading and writing.
My Project
In my classroom, students are engaged in reading and writing all throughout the day. I would like to create defined spaces in my room for my students to snuggle down with a great book while engaged in the library or while using the listening centers. I would also like to use the two rugs and additional four bean bag chairs to create a writing space where my students can get comfortable while composing their thoughts and creating priceless pieces of literature.
Please help make my room a safe and cozy place for my students to escape with a great book.
Also help them relax while sharing their thoughts and ideas during writing. Being able to create these inviting spaces helps center my students who may have heard, seen, or experienced trauma before entering my doors. Please help me set my students up for success!
