Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from high poverty, low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them live in low-income apartments. One hundred percent of them qualify for government assistance and the federal free lunch program. Many of them are ELL learners and speak English as a second language. However, these barriers do not discourage their love for learning.
These students come to school every day excited and ready to improve their reading and writing.
Their parents are very concerned about their children's education to provide them a better life. Although they are disadvantaged in so many ways, you would never know it by their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn.
My Project
This is a bad year in our state for education. Funding has been slashed multiple times and there is no room in the budget for supplies. My classroom is needing sets of scissors that can be organized easily and used in group work.
Because our students are from inner city homes, they cannot afford their own supplies, leaving teachers to fit the bill.
The scissors would be used for cut and paste activities in math and reading to reinforce important skills in phonics and computation. The students will use them for art and classroom projects as well. Because we work in cooperative groups, the colored handles and cups make for easy organization and makes keeping track of where they are easier.
Please help my class with this simple classroom tool. Thank you for taking the time to look at my project.
