My Students

"Oh my gosh! I sound so good now!" This is exclaimed with smiles all around every time a musician plays an instrument that works properly for the first time. My band classroom is a place of adventure, expression and escape. A safe place to express oneself, the band room is always open to those that choose to enter. But a growing program comes with it's challenges.

"Music can change the world, because it can change people." Students ranging in levels from beginners in 6th grade to seasoned musicians in 12th grade, my students are eager to learn and develop their skills.

They take pride in their hard work and strive excellence.

My Project

Having the right tools for the job is key. As a growing band program, we have found that most of our inventory is out of date, beyond repair and simply not large enough. The goal is to make it so only one student is using a bassoon, not three throughout the day. Making sure that all percussionists have an instrument to play, and instruments that work properly.

As a student, nothing is more frustrating than trying to learn a new skill on instruments that simply don't work anymore.

As an educator, nothing is more heartbreaking than realizing that a student can't join band because they can't afford an instrument.
