Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had a feeling of emptiness surrounding you? Well, that is the feeling in my classroom at this time, with stimulated minds that are ready to pounce on whatever is before them. This is why I am begging you for something to place into their hands so that they can work it out.
My Pre-K class consists of 18 wonderful and excited children that are ready to be challenged.
My students are basically from an impoverished area of Miami Florida, 95% Free Lunch. When money vouchers are given to teachers at the beginning of the year, VPK Pre-K is somehow left out. My VPK Pre-k gets no money and I have no idea why. I have to basically beg every year from someone to get supplies needed for my students.
My students are to go to Kindergarten prepared and it is my job to get them there; however, whenever I ask for supplies, I hear that the school has no money. Early Education Program does not give me money to order supplies that my students need, so therefore I am kneeling before you for help.
My Project
I have no construction paper in the classroom at all. When I go over the schedule with the students and I am explaining what we do in each area, for example the 'Creativity Center', I explain to the children that that area is for painting, manipulating play dough, making collages and coloring. They always tell me, 'I want to paint", however, we have no construction paper and dated paint. The paint that is in the room is smelly, so they can't use that. My students have no collage manipulatives, just in case they want to use different materials in their Art Work.
