My students need updated grooming materials to practice their dog grooming skills, and basic cleaning supplies to keep the grooming area sanitary.

My Students
The dog grooming industry provides a number of quality jobs in our area. My students need grooming supplies and tools so that they can learn the necessary skills to get a job in this competitive industry.
We are the only urban high school in Missouri offering Small Animal Care.
In our program, we currently house over 25 animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and lizards. As the only program offering this study, we have very little financial support for needed supplies.
In spite of the fact that many of my students live in neighborhoods filled with poverty and violence, when they enter the animal care facility they are able to express their gentle, caring side. This program gives them hands-on opportunities to explore a potentially rewarding career in animal health. My students learn many important job skills, such as dog and cat grooming, nail clipping, and proper cleaning and sterilization techniques.
My Project
The students need up-to-date grooming equipment so they can practice their skills on a variety of animals. The hands-on component of the program is critical to their college and career readiness. In addition, we provide grooming services to staff and students in our district for a nominal fee. The money generated is an additional necessary financial support to cover the cost of running the program.
By learning through hands-on practice, the students are better prepared for immediate entry into the animal health field or continued post-secondary education.
Without these tools, the students have a significant gap in their educational experience, which hinders their success.
