My Project
My students receive occupational therapy (OT) to help them access the many educational opportunities available to them at school. In OT, they receive guidance to improve skills for writing, classroom tool use, self-care, sensory processing, and work behaviors. They play with games and tools that increase their sensory, visual, and motor skills. It's so much fun that they don't even realize they are learning!
In order to begin accessing occupational therapy, my students require an assessment to determine their current visual and motor levels.
We also track their progress periodically through standardized assessments. This allows us to know whether the student is making progress and even helps determine if they are ready to graduate from the service.
One of the most helpful, foundational tools to achieve this is the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (Beery VMI). This test has been standardized and researched and is therefore, a reliable source of information to inform important therapy decisions. It also provides evidence based progress to share with parents, teachers, and service providers on the child's team. Thankfully, we have been utilizing this tool successfully to help students for many years. We have the manual and are just running low on the test booklets themselves. The Beery VMI Short Form Test, Pack of 25, is for assessing children aged two through seven years old. This set would ensure we are ready to assess and intervene for elementary school students whenever they require support!
Thank you so much for your interest and support of occupational therapy at our school!
