Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I plan to integrate literacy and technology by expanding my classroom walls. I want my students to read texts and be able to share with students around the world. We will be incorporating literacy, technology, and global awareness. This book is part of a world wide read aloud in October.
I am at a brand new school, with students coming from many areas of town.
I would love to build a caring community. They are fourth graders, and it will be a challenge to start at a new school for the first time. Most of my students received free or reduced lunches and come from diverse backgrounds. We are a one to one chrome book community, and my students need real world opportunities to build their technology skills. This project involves me, the teacher, guiding them into the world of blogging.
My Project
I am excited to have student read an incredible book, Fish in a Tree, as a whole class novel to build community and build empathy. The students in the book are treated badly until a new teacher comes along to help the students discover their worth. Not only will my students be reading a fantastic text, but with this text, we will be blogging to share our stories and tweeting classrooms around the world to share our thoughts. I hope this broadens their horizons and helps them to see outside of our own classroom and school. Student will be blogging about their thoughts and getting feedback from other students.
My students will gain literacy skills, build empathy towards others who are different, and meet students from around there world.
Not only that, they will get to work on twenty-first century skills with technology and social media (with my guidance, of course).
