This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 20 students are members of a third grade inclusion classroom in the middle of a large city. Together, these diverse learners tackle grade-level content and achieve social and emotional growth. They establish a vision for themselves in the future of our world.
Third graders are eager to explore new content each day, and they appreciate opportunities to share their thinking, collaborate with peers and interact with a variety of texts and topics.
I am eager to build a comfortable and inspiring classroom environment where students feel celebrated and supported and are engaged in learning.
My Project
My students and I are seeking to expand our classroom library so that it might support close-reading lessons and feature relevant, exciting new content.
From wherever we sit, we'll work towards strengthened literacy skills and build community as we meet one another where we are---in the midst of a global pandemic and confronted with opportunities to identify and repair systemic and historic racial inequality.
A good book sparks discussion, maintains attention, and lends itself to multiple learning opportunities. This cart of books is sure to deliver just that during this year and for years of library browsing and read-alouds to come.
