Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I direct a unique program at our school, a dual enrollment program with the local community college, where my students complete their A-G requirements with me in the morning, then go on to two college classes of their choice in the afternoon (under my supervision and advisement). The students in this program are from low-income families in the area, and my class is 98% non-white demographic, and from 70% first-generation immigrant families.

OCC program is a rigorous and comprehensive course providing a college-level learning experience that prepares students for college-level courses.

It allows seniors to refine their academic analytical skills, to develop oral and written debate strategies, and to understand the comprehensive nature of civics and artistic expression.

OCC develops analytical thinking and writing skills for college and career with the understanding of leadership and civic duty.

Important to Know: I do not tolerate racism, sexism, or any mean-spiritedness within discussions or writing. I am committed to developing a safe space for students to try out new thoughts, to discuss untried, and possibly controversial ideas, and to discover new and unchartered schools of thought.

My Project

My students are in desperate need of books. They are technologically savvy, and prefer e-books, as they can read from their phone as well. We are always in careful study of Economics, and how Economics drives the way we live; we were given Econ. textbooks from the district published in 1999. Sad.

My students are eager to have up-to-date content from a reputable source that they can access easily.

Both for our Economics course, and our Leadership course. We have no texts to work from in class. We desperately need modern, contemporary comprehensive texts to begin our studies, and are asking for e-books, as we are able to work with the classroom Chromebooks.

That is what makes a solid, informed, value-driven member of a community.
