The students who take my engineering and robotics classes are apart of a large, urban school and come from many different cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. However, these pieces of their identities do not define them.
The students who take my classes are curious, creative, and in general, they are thinkers.
They come in every day willing to learn and be challenged. They are future engineers and scientists, and I want to help start them off on the right foot.
My Project
Learning about trusses and bridges is a valuable skill for future engineers interested in architectural and civil engineering. Being able to calculate the forces that are acting within a truss and also being able to find centers of mass is a valuable skill.
Bringing these concepts to life by being able to build and analyze our own trusses and bridges will bring meaning and real life application to how bridges actually work.
By creating trusses and briges out of balsa wood and glue, my students will be able to get a better understanding of how the acting forces work in the bridges around them.
