This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Leonardo da Vinci was known for painting the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, but most forget that he was more of a scientist than a painter. I have noticed over the past few years that my students have a hard time seeing themselves as more than one thing. In learning how to glaze pottery, our 200+ artists can create science experiments in the art room. They will learn how chemical reactions happen and what happens when you add heat....well, a LOT of heat....to glaze. They will learn about melting temperatures and elements that contribute to the glazing process, all while creating beautiful works of ceramics.

With your help, my students will better understand how chemistry and visual arts can co-exist.
