Terrific Terrariums

My Students

My students may be small, but they abound with joy and curiosity! I teach second grade in a high-poverty Title I school, where kids arrive eager to learn and gain an understanding of the world around them. In addition to students with learning disabilities, I have many English Learners and children who are refugees from war-torn countries. This diversity calls for engaging teaching resources to meet the students' unique academic needs.

In our classroom, kids collaborate and support each other regardless of their differences.

As an inner-city school, our resources are limited, so we are grateful for any extra support we receive from the community and beyond.

My Project

We are learning about plant life cycles and the importance of plants in our environment. Most of my students live in apartments and have never had a chance to tend their own gardens.

I want my students to be able to experience firsthand the miracle of growing their own plants and learning to care for them.

I have requested the materials to create our own terrariums. My students get so excited learning about science and the world around them! They will learn responsibility as they nurture their plants, and they'll develop a sense of wonder as they build connections and understand how each living thing plays its own important part in our ecosystem.
