Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom (such as learning disabilities and/or other languages spoken at home). Due to a lack of funds, school technology is quite lacking in our school. Although my students come to school eager and willing to learn, this lack combined with a lack of technology at home, make it more difficult for them to succeed.
Every student deserves a chance to be successful!
With the right technology, my students will have that chance. Instilling a love and excitement for learning in my first graders -- that’s the fun part!
My Project
Every morning, my first grades give me a high five or fist bump and step into my classroom, which is a large, bright, and friendly room in a school that is over 100 years old. They can't wait to see what we are going to be doing, and they eagerly participate in all of the activities and lessons. They are bright, capable, and excited to learn!
Our classroom has only one working computer, however, and that is mine.
With these Chromebooks, my students could deepen their understanding of so many of the topics we study -- not to mention have the opportunity to hone their technology skills so that they can have more equal footing with children in wealthier communities who have constant access to computers and other devices.
