This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all students between the ages of three and five years old with a variety of different special needs in an urban public school. They thrive on learning through play and hands on pre-academic activities and centers. My students always have lots of energy and look forward to engaging in a variety of activities throughout their day in our classroom. They are working on their social emotional development, preacademic skills, fine motor skills, communication and gross motor skills daily in my classroom.
My Project
I am very excited to create a time in my schedule next school year to implement task box work with my students. Task box work is an opportunity in a special needs classroom for students to gain skills by completing task box work with the use of a visual schedule that allows the students to find confidence in completing independent tasks. These independent tasks allow the students to work on fine motor, literacy and math skills that have previously been introduced and taught in the classroom. The task box work allows for repetition of these skills to encourage independent mastery. This project will provide me the storage unit, the boxes and two task kits to get started on my task box project to help my students gain independent pre academic skills in my classroom. I specifically chose to ask for the storage unit bookcase to hold the the task boxes, the boxes themselves and one literacy activity and one math activity to get myself started in creating the task boxes. Donors to my Terrific Task Box project will help bring my project to life so that I can begin using the task boxes daily in my classroom instruction.
