My Students

My students are learning to be socially aware and compassionate with themselves and others. We focus on congratulating our classmates and ourselves for jobs well done academically and emotionally. We also recognize that we make mistakes and the importance of remedying them in a positive light. I love how my students compliment one another and see themselves as a unit during these difficult times of social isolation and change. They are working extra hard to catch up while still having fun and being supportive. They are eager to learn and always write me notes about how much they love school. Even though this year is challenging, they are a beacon of light.

My Project

It hurts my heart when my students' basic needs aren't being met, and when I can envision a solution but can't follow through due to lack of funds/resources. I want to provide my students clean and cold water whenever they need it. Students should not be spending time at the water fountain down the hall and mixing germs during this Omicron wave. Providing all of my students with KN95 masks just makes sense to me and the scientific literature I have read. I do not want the added stress of inadequate masking in the classroom, and I know my students don't either. Help us stay safe so that there is one less thing we need to worry about while we learn. I also want to provide my students access to left-handed scissors! I have so many lefties this year, and something as simple as this will help so much with their fine motor skills and confidence. Access to healthy snacks and breakfast/lunch foods is super important as well. Sometimes my students come to school very late and without eating and they become visibly upset that they haven't eaten. If I can provide food quickly and quietly that I think is healthy then that is just another obstacle that can be mitigated so that we can move on to our academic goals.
