Temperature Check, Please! Back to School Safety

My Students

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in an elementary school, supporting students grades PreK-5th Grade. Our students learn in general education, Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), bilingual, and 12:1 special education classrooms. Many students in our school come from low income families, and our school is comprised of a large ELL (English Language Learner) population. At our school, 96% of our students receive free or reduced-priced lunch.

Our school is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for students and their families.

My Project

Non-contact thermometers for each classroom would support students and staff in safely attending school. The Department of Education will only supply our school with two thermometers. Our school would like to ensure safety and social distancing to protect students and staff in the building. Given individual, non-contact thermometers, each classroom teacher would have the ability to check temperatures of their students in a safe manner. In the event that school is Remote in the Fall, these thermometers will still be a wonderful asset to classrooms. Teachers could use the non-contact thermometers to check their students' temperatures prior to sending them to the school nurse.

Due to COVID-19, students and staff are presented with many challenges to return safely back to school.
